Virtual Brunching is the Latest Trend You Need in Your LifeMay 5, 2020 | By Leah Freeman-Haskin
According to market research, brunch is the most popular meal for restaurants across the country. But, for most of us, we don’t need research to tell us what we already know. From boozy mid-morning cocktails to the salty and sweet combinations of brunch entrees, it is no surprise that nearly everyone loves a hearty brunch. Throw in the necessary ingredients of good company, and brunch has easily earned its right to negate breakfast and lunch all together.
But with social distancing orders in place across the globe, our favorite, weekend social activity is no longer an option for most of us. Grabbing an outdoor table at a sunny café with our favorite crew, is unfortunately, on pause at the moment. Enter a new trend in dining: virtual brunching. With all social engagements moving online these days, we must make no exception for brunch. Here is everything you need to know about the latest trend.
What is virtual brunching?
Virtual brunching is just like regular brunch, but online. Most of our current routines from school and work to museum visits and even travel, have been moved into the digital space these days, and now Sunday brunches can be enjoyed from your computer, tablet, or phone screen. You may be stuck at home, but you can still enjoy brunch “face-to-face” with your favorite crew without compromising anyone’s health.
Why is it necessary?
Social distancing is a term being used everywhere these days, but what we really need is physical distancing and social closeness. During a time when we are all forced to physically isolate from each other, the need for social interactions, closeness, and traditions are more important than ever. Virtual brunching is just another way to stay connected and maintain a healthy routine of social engagement. During these times of isolation, make sure you continue to do the things you love and stay connected to the people that love and support you the most.
How is it done?
FaceTime, Zoom, or Google Hangouts are all great places to get started. Pour your favorite brunch cocktail, cook your own delicious meal at home, or order from your favorite restaurant, while virtually connecting with family and friends. Virtualbrunch.ch has launched a platform to help you connect if doing it yourself feels overwhelming. The site provides you with a Zoom link every Sunday any time between 10 AM and 1 PM Eastern, and their host will seat you at your table for Virtual Brunch. All you have to do is invite your friends (or arrive solo) and bring your own food. The website also offers menu and cocktail options if you need a little cooking, or ordering inspiration. Organizers are even hosting virtual brunch events complete with a main stage and DJs. You’ll be able to eat, drink, dance, and network!
When should I do it?
Most restaurants offer brunch menus on the weekends but feel free to schedule your next virtual brunch any day of the week. Mid-morning or early afternoon is the best time of day and allows you to implement everything from pancakes to burgers into your at-home menu. Don’t feel obligated to stick with weekend brunches only. A weekday virtual brunch date could be the pick-me-up you need. And why not take advantage of work from home schedules? We are all looking for silver linings these days. Stay safe, stay healthy, and happy virtual brunching!
