July 10-19, 2020
Experience 10 days in two of Brazil’s most vibrant cities, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador da Bahia. You’ll begin your adventure in Rio de Janeiro, one of the world’s most famous cities, showing you many sides to this multi-faceted destination. You’ll visit a Quilombo (traditional settlement founded by runaway slaves) and volunteer in that community for a day. Then, you’ll tour the famous landmarks, such as Christ the Redeemer, and explore some of the hidden African histories. There will be plenty of free time to relax on the beach, taste the local cuisine, or check out the nightlife. You’ll be fully prepared for Rio nightlife with a caipirinha-making workshop and samba lesson.
After showing you the best of Rio, you’ll head north to Salvador da Bahia. Here you’ll discover why this city is called “Little Africa”. With over 70% of inhabitants being of African descent, many are still connected to their roots through dance, food, and religion. You’ll learn about the Yoruba culture prevalent in Brazil and tour the surrounding historical sites. Let the ocean breeze kiss your face and wind sweep you off of your feet as you parasail through the sky during our boat party. Two places, two paces, one sweet Brazilian flavor!
